If your child dreams of playing in an orchestra one day, or you love strings and want them to play beautiful melodies on violin or viola, then Violin & Viola with Shan is the way to go! Both the violin and viola have a long, beautiful, and rich tradition that of course transcends classical music, and Shan would be happy to inspire them in that way—she brings a wealth of experience beyond the typical world of classical music including metal, emo rap, Celtic, and Klezmer music!

Shan Taylor

Shan started playing violin at age 8 after being inspired by Isaac Stern’s solos in The Fiddler on the Roof film. She’s been fiddling ever since and spent her time out of school in local youth orchestras and summer music festivals like Brevard. She has a BA in music from Luther College and an MFA in violin performance from Central Michigan University. She’s an experienced teacher having taught private lessons at Black Swamp Fine Arts School and Forte Music School in Ohio and as a group violin lesson instructor at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Michigan. Her teaching style emphasizes solid fundamentals while using music to express your own unique voice. Shan is a fan of a wide variety of musical styles and repertoire including Classical, New Music, Metal, Emo Rap, and traditional music like Celtic as well as Klezmer.
